Louisville Command now providing assistance at the site of train derailment in Southwest Jefferson County
Louisville, KY (November 1, 2012)-The Salvation Army canteen, essentially a full kitchen on wheels, served at the site of this week’s train derailment offering nourishment to responders; that from Salvation Army Major Mike Hawley, Louisville Area Commander.
Captain Mike Goode, Commander of the Portland Corps, says his trained team of volunteers provided water, coffee, hot chocolate and breakfast sandwiches to those on the ground working at the derailment site.
The canteen is the only one of its kind in the Louisville Area Command.
Salvation Army disaster Services and Response Teams are often times among the first to respond, standing alongside 1st responders.
