The Salvation Army Florida Division responds to wildfire in Indian River County FL

May 21, 2021 (FELLSMERE, FL) - The Salvation Army Florida Division (Vero Beach Corps) is responding to a wildfire in Indian River County FL.

This Morning, Indian River County Emergency Management contacted The Salvation Army’s Vero Beach Corps requesting feeding assistance in response to a Wildfire.

Capt. Ryan Meo responded to the call for support with expedience. A Canteen and an EDS response team were deployed to serve lunch to the 50 fire fighters and first responders. Upon arrival, the Incident Commander for the wildfire response requested that the Canteen remain on the scene and serve until the fire is contained. The canteen is anticipated to feed between 50-75 first responders.

As of 1:45pm, Friday, May 21st the fire is over 800 acres with no containment, growing from 10 acres this morning. With the high wildfire danger and gusty winds, fires can grow rapidly as is the case with the Tree Frog Wildfire.
