Council Bluffs Corps Opens Disaster Resource Center (DRC) Amid Ongoing WST Flood-Relief Effort

ADDING A SECOND DISASTER RESOURCE CENTER (DRC):  COUNCIL BLUFFS CORPS SET TO OPEN WESTERN IOWA-FOCUSED DRC TO PROVIDE EVEN MORE OPTIONS

A second Disaster Resource Center (DRC)—in Council Bluffs—is set to join the already-operating DRC (in Omaha near 84th and Center) starting Monday, April 1.

The Council Bluffs DRC is located at the Council Bluffs Corps, 715 N. 16th St.

In similar fashion to the Omaha DRC, the new DRC in Council Bluffs will serve primarily as a distribution center where people in need can come to pick up flood-relief items.  Donations of flood-relief items will also be accepted (the types of items would be the same as those described in the release we sent Thursday 3/28 around 4:15 p.m., viz. “UPDATED List of Needed Items…”) at the Council Bluffs DRC.

The Council Bluffs DRC’s hours will be as follows:

  • Mondays and Thursdays:  9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:  9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Saturdays:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Sundays:  closed

In addition to Corps staff, a caseworker will be on-site at the Council Bluffs DRC to help with intake and ensuring people’s needs are met.  As people arrive, they will briefly meet with the caseworker, complete a brief intake form, and will then be guided through part of the building where flood-relief items have been organized and placed for ease of pickup.  People needing flood-relief items will need to bring a photo ID with them.

PLEASE NOTE:  The Omaha DRC’s operating hours continue as before.  Both the Omaha DRC and the Council Bluffs DRC will remain in operation until further notice.
