Salvation Army Committed to Providing Ongoing Relief for Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, FL (October 26, 2018) -  After Hurricane Michael made landfall just two weeks ago, The Salvation Army rapidly deployed trained disaster relief personnel to serve affected families and first responders throughout Tallahassee, Panama City, Mexico Beach, and Georgia.

The category 4 storm destroyed multiple homes and businesses, tore down countless trees, and claimed innocent lives. Much of the infrastructure of power lines were also compromised beyond repair and must be rebuilt.

As affected families attempt to recover from Hurricane Michael, The Salvation Army has been providing services to meet the immediate needs of survivors and first responders. As of October 25, The Salvation Army’s disaster relief team of Tallahassee has provided the following services throughout Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden, Calhoun, and Jackson counties:

  • 72,653 meals
  • 52,232 drinks
  • 6,443 snacks
  • Emotional & spiritual care for 6,443 individuals
  • 573 Comfort Kits
  • 134 Cleanup Kits
  • 960 Food Boxes
  • 300 Baby Supplies
  • 91 Cases of Water
  • 20 Blankets

The Salvation Army will also provide long-term services for these families, especially those who may need additional support this holiday season.

“The holidays are already a tough time for families. The families that were affected by this disaster, especially those that were already faced with food inadequacies and other insecurities, will take a lot longer to recover,” said Jessica Geib, Emergency Disaster Services State Liaison for The Salvation Army Florida Division.

Before the impact, during the chaos, and after the dust settles, The Salvation Army is committed to providing critical, social, and spiritual services for anyone in need.
