Operation BBQ Relief Partners with The Salvation Army in Wilmington, NC

Wilmington, North Carolina (September 20, 2018) – The Salvation Army is on the ground serving Wilmington, NC residents and people residing in the Cape Fear region. To date, 15 mobile feeding units with certified food service workers and emotional and spiritual care staff are feeding, hydrating, and giving hope to first responders and people impacted by Hurricane Florence.

In partnership with Operation BBQ Relief, who’ve worked tirelessly to maintain a steady supply of food, The Salvation Army has served 20,000 warm meals to residents of Wilmington, NC and surrounding counties. Operation BBQ Relief is prepared to serve 25,000 meals each day. Operation BBQ Relief, a nonprofit that provides meals to displaced residents and emergency personnel during times of natural and other disasters, is cooking hundreds of thousands of pounds of turkey, pork and beef for Wilmington residents until early October.

“The resources Operation BBQ Relief brings, combined with The Salvation Army’s mobile kitchen units, give us the opportunity to serve our community with lunch and dinner,” said Major Mark Craddock, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army of Cape Fear. “Our mobile kitchen units are feeding in Columbus, Bladen, Pender, Brunswick, and New Hanover, where residents have been significantly affected by the flooding and are slowly gaining back electricity.”

As the floodwaters begin to decrease in the Cape Fear region, The Salvation Army continues to meet the immediate needs of the Cape Fear region with the help of generous contributions.
