The Salvation Army Begins Assistance of Cranston Fire Evacuation Shelter

Riverside, CA. July 27, 2018 – The Cranston Fire is currently raging in Riverside County, having already spread to 11,500 acres after starting just this past Wednesday afternoon. It has destroyed at least five homes in the Idyllwild area, and thousands in the region have already been evacuated. Currently, 2 evacuation centers have been opened: Banning High School (100 W. Westward Avenue, Banning, CA 92220) and Hamilton High School (57430 Mitchell Road, Anza, CA 92539).

The Salvation Army California South’s Moreno Valley Corps began food service today at Banning High School, serving 55 meals over breakfast and handing out 41 hygiene kits. Meanwhile, The Salvation Army’s Hemet Corps are currently on standby for food service at Hamilton High School. Food service will continue until the evacuation centers have been closed. Both sites are also providing emotional and spiritual care to evacuees.

At this time, The Salvation Army is asking for financial donations, which can be used to meet immediate challenges and specific needs in a timely fashion. Financial donations can also be pivoted into long-term recovery campaigns such as financial assistance for those that have lost their homes. To donate, click here or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
