Tampa Bay Salvation Army On Standby and Ready to Serve

Tampa Bay, FL (June 6, 2016) – Just days into Hurricane Season 2016, The Salvation Army is on standby and prepared to serve and to assist with the effects of Tropical Storm Colin. With a presence in every county throughout Tampa Bay, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to support emergency management personnel and communities as needed.

Trained, dedicated staff and volunteers are actively monitoring the weather across the bay area and are in regular communication with officials throughout the region.

Major James Hall, Salvation Army Area Commander for Hillsborough County affirms that “The Salvation Army is ready and willing to be of service. We will continue to be in communication with our emergency management personnel across the bay area so we can be of the best service to our communities when needed.”

Because The Salvation Army has a long history of response in disaster situations – large and small – a net of trained personnel and response vehicles (mobile feeding units) designed for rapid and free-standing response are ready to be deployed.

Just a few weeks ago, The Salvation Army’s Pinellas Team participated in the Pinellas County’s Emergency Management’s Hurricane Exercise, demonstrating the county and the Army’s commitment to be ready in situations such as this. Last summer in the wake of local record flooding, The Salvation Army was called upon by the Pasco County Emergency Operations Center to serve meals out of the Army’s mobile canteens. In addition, the Army deployed a shower unit and distributed clean up kits to neighborhoods throughout Pasco County.
