The Salvation Army Serves Following Storms in Central Oklahoma

May 7, 2015 - Oklahoma City, OK – The Salvation Army is on the grounds in Central Oklahoma, serving those affected by the destructive storms that moved through Bridge Creek, Amber, Blanchard and southern parts of Oklahoma City on May 6th, 2015.

“It is a privilege to serve these communities in their time in need, as the residents in this area have been so generous in their giving to The Salvation Army all year,” said Captain Kim Grimes, Corps Officer in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Mobile feeding units (canteens) provided lunch and dinner in areas that were heavily damaged by tornadoes and flood waters. 200 meals were provided for lunch by Interurban restaurant of Chickasha, and were delivered into the neighborhoods so that those who were affected by the storms could continue picking up the scattered pieces of their homes. Evening meals were donated to The Salvation Army by the Chickasaw Nation, and were served on both mobile canteens and fixed feeding locations.

Hydration, snacks, and supplies were also provided to residents and first responders, many of which were donated to The Salvation Army’s disaster relief efforts by WalMart and Ross Feed & Seed.

The Salvation Army will continue its service of food, hydration, and emotional & spiritual care in these neighborhoods in the coming days, even as the threat of severe weather continues throughout the rest of the week.
