Salvation Army Center in East Harlem to Serve as Resident Support Site After Explosion

At the request of The New York City Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army Greater New York Division’s Manhattan Citadel Community Center is sheltering at least 71 displaced people, after yesterday’s devastating gas explosion that leveled two buildings in East Harlem.

Beginning at noon today, a Resident Support Center will open at this site. This will be a “one stop” for affected residents to receive available resources and services from the city and state agencies that include, among others, the Department of Mental Health & Hygiene, the Department of Aging, the Department of Homeless Services, and the Department of Buildings. Transportation is being provided for children sheltered here to their schools.
